24th till 28th of October Liesbeth Wildschut is in Normandy, to work with her colleague Jo Butterworth on a new edition of Contemporary Choreography.
2nd till 7th of October Sigrid Merx will be in Athens with Platform-Scenography to participate in the exhibition (Out)-Topias in the New Benaki Museum. The exhibition deals with the political and social dimensions of public space as performance space. With a team from Platform-Scenography Sigrid has curated a 4-day live action research project in the city in which a group op scenographers, urban planners and architects collaboratively investigate public space from the point of view of ‘transitions’. The project is part of Platform-Scenography’s ongoing search for a scenographic approach to understanding (public) space in which thinking by doing is crucial.
16th till 22nd of September Sigrid Merx is in London for Urban Heat, an EU Creative project that enables artists to develop their understanding of issues facing cities and to develop new forms of participatory arts practice and projects in response. The project consists of a series of Urban Labs and Academies in different cities to learn more about local practices and activist and artistic strategies. She critically reflects on the projects in terms of the dramaturgical strategies that are being discussed, developed and employed. Previous Urban Labs were in Cairo, Lisbon and Dro. In November, both Sigrid and Liesbeth Groot Nibbelink will travel, in this context, to Maribor.
16th of September Maaike Bleeker is in Gotenburg as opponent to Johan Petri, who will be defending his dissertation “The Rythm of Thinking. Immanence and Ethics in Theatre Performance”.
8th and 9th of September Maaike Bleeker is in Exeter for a meeting of the Rock/Body: Performative Interfaces Between the Geologic and the Body, a research network that brings together researchers from the humanities, social sciences, health and earth sciences alongside artists to investigate the human body as a site that exists in continuity with – rather than cut away from – the geologic.
12th to 14th of August Maaike Bleeker is in Singapore for the international workshop Presenting Cutlural Specificity in Digital Collections, organised by Miguel Escobar at the National University of Singapore.
27th to 31st of July Liesbeth Groot Nibbelink is in Dro, Italy, where she participates as a researcher in the Urban Heat project, a project on art, activism, new audiences and new dramaturgical strategies. Urban Heat is a project developed by the Festivals in Transition (FIT) network of thirteen international festival partners, supported by Creative Europe.

14th until 18th of April Sigrid Merx is in Cairo as part Urban Heat, a 4-year project developed by the Festivals in Transition (FIT) network which through a series of academies and Urban Labs enables artists to develop their understanding of issues facing cities and to develop new forms of participatory arts practice in response. Cairo is hosting one of the Urban Labs. Sigrid’s role in this project, together with Liesbeth Groot Nibbelink, is to critically reflect on the project through observation and participation.
6th of April Sigrid Merx, Chiel Kattenbelt and Liesbeth Groot Nibbelink are on a 1-day writing retreat at a secret place together with the members of [urban interfaces], a research group that critically investigates urban interfaces for creative and participatory engagement at the crossing of academic research and cultural practices. The group is just starting to work on their first publication.
