MA Contemporary Theatre and Dance Studies /
Our philosophy
FOCUS/GOALS
The MA program aims to train independent, reflective and critical thinkers with a deep understanding of contemporary theatre and dance. Our goal is to produce scholars who use their perspective to facilitate and promote the development of theory, dramaturgy and the practice of theatre and dance, criticism, policy and education. Students will become acquainted with the latest developments in theatre and dance and with the latest critical and theoretical approaches. A tremendous diversity of forms, increasing internationalism and a high degree of self-reflexivity are characteristic of contemporary theatre and dance. Societal, theoretical and cross-artistic developments are highly influential. These complex interrelationships are the primary focus of the Theatre Studies Master's degree.
The Theatre Studies Master's program prepares you for jobs in the world of theatre and dance, theatre and dance education, arts and culture policy, and academic professions in the arts and culture in general. Graduates of the Master’s program have gone on to work as theatre and dance dramaturges, theatre critics, dance critics, researchers, Public Relations or education officers with theatre and dance companies, directors of culturally oriented radio/television programs, organizers and programmers of theatre or dance festivals, public officials for municipal or national cultural affairs departments, and employees at training centres for the arts. Some students have pursued PhDs.
EXPANDING THEATRE
